my parents are awesome

My parents were awesome is a blog I heard about on npr. Immediately I was drawn to it's theme, family photography. It allows anyone to show the world an image of their parent(s.)

The blog is a tribute to the people who raised us, a look at the different styles of various decades and the awesome-ness that is our parents before we came a long. Mostly, it's an assemblage of photographs that allow a brief peak into lives unknown. Each photograph is part of an ongoing life story. I really enjoy looking at it from time to time.

I decided to submit a picture of my own awesome parents. The image I chose is from one of their first dates in the spring of 1979.

irony

The name of our current health insurance is, Basic Health but we don't get basic health insurance.

What we've got is:

A doctor who insisted Asher endure 6 separate vaccines in one appointment, despite my protest. I felt bullied.

I'm confused as to why we are currently paying for Medicaid.

We are trying to find new health insurance that has good coverage, including dental, that we can afford...

mix tape

This is a collage piece I made for an "album cover." The record sleeve is from and old Dave Brubeck 7 inch. The illustrations I cut out were off of a promo poster I found in the "Free" bin at Easy Street Records in Queen Anne.

One of the bands featured on my "mix tape" is a Swedish band called, Little Dragon. An unusual combination of American R&B, electronica and 80's pop/new wave...I can't get enough. Asher won't stop dancing to the Machine Dreams album. His bottom starts bouncing as soon as the first song starts to play...any music that makes him dance, is my favorite kind of music.

upcoming photo exhibit

I am going to be showing a series of journalistic portraits at Koko Beans Coffee House in downtown Snoqualmie right across the street from the train museum. My work will be up March 1st - April 1st. If you're in the area come check it out!
