When I re-read this post nearly 4 months after you published it, I am reminded of a brief phone conversation that Abby and I had recently, and coincidentally, about feeling overwhelmed: She was saying that you, Hannah, felt being a mom made you feel crazy sometimes. And she wondered if I (as your--and her--Mom) felt like that too. I said yes. I elaborated: I said that when Hannah is overwhelmed she will scream. When I am overwhelmed I will cry. Abby said what does Dad do? I said when Dad is overwhelmed he escapes. Abby said, what do I do, Mom? I said when you are overwhelmed Abby, you shut down and stop trying. Abby said, How come you know me better than I know myself?
